Furf is disconcerting. It is impossible to come across their creations and come out the same way. If someone makes a list of the top ten design studios of the new century and does not include this pair from Brazil, be suspicious. Even though the company is still crawling, with only eight springs, Maurício Noronha and Rodrigo Brenner have already managed to get the world to take their hats off for them. They have on the shelf the most important design awards: Cannes Lion, iF Design Award and Red Dot.
Thanks to the nonconformity that devours them. From social inequality to pollution of the seas. They are hostages of their will to transform the world by design. No exaggeration. That goes from recovering the self-esteem of amputees returning light to the lives of people with the Confetti prosthetic leg cover, to stamping a savior smile to the face of who arrives at home after a difficult day and bumps into buttons of the Bloom armchair blossoming like flowers through a traditional local technique.
Noronha and Brenner are already masters. They get rid of the cover of self-sufficiency, so common among designers and architects, and refuse to stay on Olympus by talking only with their fellow designers. They are like Prometheus, the titan of Greek mythology who decided to live on Earth and dedicate himself to humanity. They interact with architects, anthropologists, psychologists and oceanographers in the development of their products. The ace in the hole for disruptive, humorous and amazing solutions. As the newly emerging Autumn furniture collection, the first in history fabricated with beLEAF, a leather made of leaves internationally recognized in 2019 as best natural material at the Asia Pacific Leather Fair in Hong Kong.
Once the Danish architect Bjarke Ingels told me: “As human beings, we do not have to accept the world as it is. We can create the world of our dreams. It’s a big responsibility.” They know that.
